I really liked the size of this pop up map, great for a pocket, very easy to whip it out of a jacket or pants pocket or purse. It is very easy to understand. The print is legible (MUCH better than the London streetwise map), but...times have changed.When I got to London, I used my iphone rather than the pop out map. Google maps shows you everything you want to know, it quickly identifies a route to get there walking or driving....the mass transit option shows real time buses and tube or a combination, shows you how long the journey will be, how many stops, names each stop, and you can even watch yourself move while on the bus (follow the blue dot). Google maps shows when the next bus will arrive and what your route options are, ie if there are multiple ways to get somewhere...as well as back. It even shows you a photo of the place you are trying to get to so that you recognize it easily as you approach.That being said, if you run out of power on your smart phone, you are out of luck---so I used the pop up map as a back up, just in case. I would buy the lowest price option of the pop up map (there are different versions) because all the tourist sites are in exactly the same place as they were on the older version.
POP-UP MAPS - UNFOLD TO MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIERGive me an old fashioned "unfold it and hold it in your hands map."And for me, Pop-Up maps, are so easy.. pop it open and look at the streets.(Sorry, I am older.. I use my phone to make phone calls.. no apps, no web surfing.. I don't want to look at a little bity screen.. of course, millennials can look up in 30 seconds... But I can POP_UP up in seconds, rain or shine data signal or not )WHAT'S INSIDE: (see photos)Front: Title CoverBack: TheatrelandPop-Up: Left Central LondonPop-Up: Right - West EndMiddle: Tube Maps and Bus routesAlso: Points of interest and Street IndexEuroStar train stationsYes, some bad reviews and people disappointed with these handy little maps.. so what, I like them and find them (on a whole) to be worth it, even if i only use it once or twice in the city and it saves me walking the wrong way.Ps. postscript - post London - it turns out the PopOut Map was handy to stare at and see the list of sights and museum locations, then be able to plot and plan systematic walking tours while at the hotel.. honestly however, when we were in the field, my wife google mapped where we were and how to get to where we wanted to go.. (so the PopOut Map was nice to have, and nice for plotting big picture course, but not a deal breaker)
The good: the map is very handy and is packed with useful information. It takes up very little space and easily fits in a shirt pocket. The bad: the small size comes with a price. While great for its convenience, the small size detracts from clarity and detail. I found it difficult to read and too small to convey important details. This is not the kind of map you would use to navigate up and down streets (unless they are major roads) - rather, it sort of points you in various directions and highlights significant landmarks.
I can't say enough good things about these pop up maps. They are small and easy to use. We used it less this trip now that you can download a certain area of Google maps for use offline, but it was still valuable as a back up in case of battery death and we used it for some information like landmarks and bus routes that was harder or impossible to parse offline.
Always travel with these compact discrete maps. Good to answer quick orientation travel question and nearest subway stop ect. Sure you can you use a phone. Always found these faster especially if you care about roaming data charges. Doubles as good London underground reference to, I also bought the London underground popup map but never used it on the trip.
I love these maps. They are so convenient for travel. I have one from every country I’ve been to and they have served me well. Fits into a small bag or travel belt. Will continue to buy as ling as the company makes them.
This map packs a lot of information into a small space. It's a convenient size to carry, although the print can be a bit small for eyes that wish they were younger. We relied on it, along with Streetwise London, to get around London without a guide. It worked!
This is by far the best, cheapest map for a tourist in London. We've had several different London maps over the years, but I like the bang-for-the-buck on this one, and often recommend it to my college students who are doing Study Abroad in London. It has everything a tourist needs in a small format.
