About the Author
Lance Brewer was born and raised in Southern California. Lance played college baseball at UCLA and University of Utah. He was admitted to practice law in California in 1986. Thereafter, Lance became a pilot, gaining ratings as an Airline Transport, Multi-Engine, Seaplane and Helicopter pilot, which served him well in his exploration of Alaska. In 1994 and 2005, Lance was the chief campaign strategist for Marilyn Brewer for Assembly and Congress, respectively. In 2005, Brewer was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of Advanced Photonix (API), a publicly traded company.

Back Story Alaska isn't just for outdoor enthusiasts, it's an engaging insight for those who have already been to Alaska, or for anyone like myself who has always wanted to travel there. The vivid descriptions and anecdotes bring light to the unique experiences of outdoorsman and author Lance Brewer, for which the reader will be rewarded. I found myself connecting with the unique characters and closer yet to the adventure through beautiful pictures and heartfelt poems. Brewer does an amazing job not only educating the reader about the challenges faced in Alaska but cares enough to engage us with his quick wit and humor - even laughing at himself. It's not every day when reading a book I feel so inspired, however, before finishing Back Story Alaska I was compelled to plan a trip there. I can hardly wait to experience Brewer's passion for Alaska myself!
An AMAZING Adventure with an AMAZING Adventurer. WOW what a way to immerse yourself into a beautiful, harsh, breath taking, physicaly demanding, magical, deadly environment and share it with the world. The read is funny, sharp, suspenseful, poetic & just plan good old fashioned talking story. I couldn’t put the book down as I wanted to know what the next adventure was going to be. Way to go Brewer, looks like when you become an “Old Pilot†and hang up your wings you will have something to fall back on.
This book came recommended by a friend based on true adventures in Alaska. Back Story Alaska woke up my sense of adventure and now I can't wait to visit and experience Alaska for myself!
This is a great book for anyone wanting to visit the state of Alaska. The author brings humor, adventures, poetry, and life lessons. One of my favorite stories was when Lance's plane floated away, and he had to jump in the frigid water to get it back. The photography is beautiful and really makes you feel like you are there in the wilds of Alaska.
I love this book because it makes me want to visit Alaska. Aside from the great photography, each chapter of the book conveys a sort of moral, like the value of family, the importance of empathy, or the necessity of putting one's problems into perspective. These lessons are illustrated by a short poem at the conclusion of each chapter, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Lance Brewer’s back story of his Alaska is a love affair with life filled with passion and appreciate for nature. I’ve never been to Alaska yet feel what it has to offer through Lance’s journey.
If you are looking for an escape to the Alaskan Bush, look no further. You can feel the author's deep love for Alaska as he transports you, with vivid description, to the place he loves. Thought provoking content laced with witty quips makes this a great read.
