In fact, we used the framework of this book to write the "Mission Statement" for our church! The Father desires a "Family" and a "Dwelling Place to share with His Family. God the Son desires a "Body" and a "Bride". I always say, " When you know who you are then you can go far". Read this book and discover who you really are in the eyes of the Triune God! When you do then you will give this book five stars too!!ðŸ‘ðŸ‘
The idea of understanding God's eternal purpose by tracking the ideas of the church being a Bride, a Body, and a Building throughout scripture is very insightful. We've heard teaching on these individually in church, but I've never seen them brought together in one volume like Viola does here. I've heard him talk on this topic, but his writing is very strong, and a new way to appreciate it.If you want to learn how to have a deeper walk with Christ, this book is an eye-opener.
Frank Viola is unique in all of his books in his singular focus of Christ as "all in all". His insights into the Bible's unified story of Jesus Christ from Genesis to Revelation is a must read for anyone who tires of "Christian books" that miss the message and, more importantly, the mysteries of God. If your church has lost its focus on the love and eternal being of Christ, in favor of "programs" and "what you need to do to please God", this volume, along with all the others of Frank Viola, will re-connect you with the voice of God. Frank wants to "restore" the ekklesia to what it was in Acts 2, and not try to please men with "what their itching ears want to hear" (2 Timothy 4:3) from many of today's pulpits!
This amazing and elegant revelation of God and His profoundly beautiful plan of creation (making the likes of us participants and coheirs) is a paradigm changer of momentous proportion. I chose this book for our Christian book club a couple of years ago. It had been recommended by a Presbyterian radio minister we've supported for decades. He was deeply moved although at first, reticent to look at so glorious and so radically different from the prescribed way! Let's bare our selfish little souls. When the ultimate truth is revealed, through your tears and humiliation and praise for the manner of love of our God, you know change is required. As exciting as that is, the thought wearies us. But, we thought we had God's truth all put away neatly! Now what?There's no going back to the way of man, as the author so clearly describes, seeking spiritual its, self proclamations, and seeking the power of God, missing the man from heaven, our passionate Bridegroom and sum of all spiritual things. But I did go back anyway to the status quo since no one seems to want to press in, lay it all down as a people, etc.Now, I have read this book again. It's good it was on my Kindle for the pages would not have sustained the broken pipe of my tears.With prayer and with all spiritual discernment the Holy Spirit graciously lends, I could not find any part that did not say Yes! and Amen! in my deepest places of my heart. I am weak and always subject to deception so I examined again the Scriptural exegesis and I am sure this whole writing in its beautiful and exalting language is a gift to us from God Himself through His beloved and chosen Frank. Thank you so much. I'm putting my running shoes on and I am pressing on to lay hold of that for which Jesus laid hold of me. I love the simplicity of this truth: Whenever the Father gives us a gift, it is His Son. Whenever, the Son gives a gift, it is Himself. Wow! Sorry potluck suppers and discipleship workbooks, the King of all creation wants me (us) to dine with Him and He with us (me). I pray Ephesian 1:17 that we as His Body (not a metaphor) will turn unreservedly and court with passion and persistence, the One who loves us and gave all for us, His Bride, chosen before time, uniquely made, to delight His heart with our love. Turning around takes a few awkward maneuvers and looking back but once you get in the right direction, the Master will do the driving. He knows the destination! If God can make an interlocking stone out of this one (my independent critical self) there is great hope for our house. Shalom!
