I read this book in 2 days! Stopped only to eat and sleep. Vital is a brilliantly gifted writer whose beautiful, honest words flow eloquently and effortlessly, transporting the reader to the very time and place within the story itself. The captivating story of a courageous young boy who suffered undue loss and tragedy from a tender age through adolescence, but who triumphed over adversity, never giving up hope - then to find success in Cirque Du Soleil. I laughed at the humor, cheered for him, and cried for him for the horror he was subjected to as a teen. This is a story of not just suffering but a story of hope, of redemption and the power of the human spirit! Finding parallels within the story to my own life of struggle as a child alone courageously overcoming challenges to triumph with undying hope; I found solace and renewed joy within its pages knowing that I am not alone and that the writer understood. Hope and the human spirit indeed conquers all! Vital is a remarkable man not embittered but impassioned filled with infectious hope with his story that is a gift to the world. I read this fabulously interesting book from cover to cover in one sitting! As I got to the end, I read more slowly because I wanted more. And then, voilà ! I saw there is more in version 2.0. I’m on it! I’m so grateful to Vital Germaine for sharing his fascinating life with such emotion, vulnerability and inspiration.

A true story that is heart wrenching yet left something with me that I will never forget. Vital really touched my life as I saw some similarities with my own childhood. He gave me peace and knowledge to know that no matter what, my life doesn't have to be what I don't want it to be. A must read book that is hard to put down until the very end!
I borrowed this book and was so moved by it, I am now buying it, The story is unique, unforgettable and brutally honest, As we move with the writer though Africa, Belgium,England and then back to Belgium, we experience his tremendous loss,and confusion. Where does his hope, his determination to rise above rejection come from? Where does the depth of loyalty to his brothers and the quiet assurance that they too will beat the odds - where does this come from? Without giving the answer away, let me say that there is an intensity of trust, often unspoken, that defies all reason beneath the turmoil of the writer's childhood, beneath the appearance of neglect, beneath the heartbreak, the shame he endures. There is an intensity of faith so deep that no amount of lies, no length of separation can negate it. Read the dedication to this book Yes, 39 is far too young for a life to end. But, thanks to this writer, we, the readers will never forget it.
